Joe was born and raised in Meeker, CO where he grew up loving all things outdoors. He spends his free time exploring the Rockies on a snowboard or snowmobile and hunting for elk during the winter. When the weather permits, you will likely find him out dirt-biking, wake-boarding, camping or basically doing all things outdoors.
Growing up, he was very active in every sport because he loves competing. His passion to progress pushed him through high school where he focused his efforts on his favorite sports of football, wrestling and baseball. He excelled on the mat where he was able to bring home 3 Colorado state wrestling titles. His success on the mat earned him an opportunity to compete at the next level at the University of Wyoming where he continued pursuing his academic and athletic goals. During his time in Laramie, he was able to become the first and only 4x All-American and the winningest wrestler in school history with 147 career wins. He earned the distinguished NWCA Academic All American award throughout his final 3 seasons as a Cowboy, graduating with a degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion in 2012.
Joe and his family moved across the country where he gained valuable experience coaching at Indiana University, Brown University, and the University of Northern Colorado. Joe has coached 9 NCAA Division 1 Qualifiers, 3 All-Americans, and 2 University National Freestyle Champions/ World Team Members (One of whom earned a World University Freestyle Bronze Medal), and one Greco Roman World Team Member in 3 years of coaching at the D1 level.
Throughout his collegiate and coaching career, Joe also founded the Live to Dominate LLC and conducted wrestling camps each summer in throughout the United States. Joe is passionate about growing the sport of wrestling and has enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the exponential growth of each of the four programs he has been a part of. His goal is to help bring the life lessons and character traits taught through this great sport to the next generation. He is passionate about playing a role in training the youth to not only become high quality wrestlers but most importantly, adults who embody the quality character traits that wrestling teaches.
He has four wonderful son's who are his greatest pride and joy. They are learning to wrestle at their own pace and in their own timing. Regardless of which sport or interests they choose to pursue, he encourages them to do it with excellence and with "all of their might' (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
